About Me

Fairfax, VA Therapist and CounselorPatricia Gibberman, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in treating couples. She is the first and most experienced Certified Gottman Couples Therapist and the only Gottman Couples Therapy Workshop Leader and Trainer in Virginia. She maintains a private practice in Fairfax, Virginia.

"With over 30 years experience, and as a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist, I specialize in working with couples for whom marriage counseling has not worked in the past. Whether you simply want to enhance your marriage or are on the brink of divorce, it is possible to reconnect and strengthen your relationship."  See my listing here.

In addition to her work as a marriage therapist, she is a Master Certified Gottman Trainer trained by John and Julie Gottman at the highest level to be a Consultant to therapists going through the certification process, and she teaches the Gottman Level 1 Workshop, Bridging the Couple Chasm: A New Research-Based Approach, the Gottman Level 2 Workshop, Assessment, Intervention, and Co-Morbitities, and the Gottman Level 3 Workshop, Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy to other therapists. She also co-presents the Gottman Art and Science of Love Workshop for couples and speaks to general audiences on Making Marriage Work and other topics.

"I am an interactive, solution-focused relationship therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address relationship and personal life challenges in order to improve their marriage. I integrate proven complimentary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each couple's and individual's needs.  Over the past couple of years, I have begun to incorporate two other very effective research-based couples therapy approaches called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and A Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) into my practice. This gives me additional tools that, combined with the Gottman method, represent the best cutting-edge couples therapy available today. With compassion and understanding, I work with each couple to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal and relationship growth they are striving for."
